Data found for "Isabel Beauchamp Bello" has led the general consensus to be that Dionisio Beauchamp Cuba & Ines Bello Torres gave the name "Isabel" to 2 daughters. Please contact me if you have information that either validates or refutes this consensus.

May 2012 - Updated FAMILIA pages

Prompted by an inquiry of a descendant-in-law of Juan Pascual Beauchamp Ramos, a review of Juan Pascual's data sources has led to the discovery that the name listed in the database for his father was incorrect and which is now correct on the family page. However, this moved Juan Pascual and his family from the main database to the MISSING LINK database.

Ivette Pol Acevedo, a descendant of Arturo Pol Velez, has purchased and shared with us a PDF copy of The Most Distinguished Surname Beauchamp and The Most Distinguished Surname Pol, published by the Swyrich Corporation, provide a historical look at the surnames. Please note that there are no references to the Beauchamp or Pol families of Puerto Rico in these booklets.

Ireliz Rodriguez Beauchamp, a descendant of Venancio Arturo Beauchamp Crespo, is married to a Bretón, adding that surname to our FAMILIA. Ireliz has provided a PDF copy of El Apellido Bretón en la Republica Dominicana - Investigacion Genealogica por Freddy Bretón Martinez. Freddy Bretón Martinez is also known as the Bishop of Bani in the Dominican Republic.

Many heartfelt thanks to all for their participation and contributions to this website & research project.

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Centro) at Hunter College in New York City has an amazing and unique collection of Puerto Rican related records in their archives department. Two of these collections are the FBI Files on Puerto Ricans (project in progress) and the Puerto Rican Identification and Documenation Program. Access more information on these collections by clicking on the above images links.

The applications for the Puerto Rican Identification and Documentation Program (1930-1959) consist of general ID information, sometimes a birth or baptism record and a passport size photo of the applicant. The applications are now on microfilm and a searchable database listing the applicant's names is available at the website. If you find a relative, you can submit a request for a copy of the application. Visit the website via the above image links for details.

My favorite feature of this archive are the photos. So many genealogists have names and data for their ancestors but may never come across a photo for them. For some, this archive puts a face to the name.

December 19, 2010 Wish List

Amador Ramirez Silva, an attorney from Mayagüez and President during 1958 of the Centro Cultural Baudilio Vega Berríos at Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, was married to Felicidad Lara Ripoll. I've been informed by Fatima Seda Barletta and "laserenisima" that the marriage ended prematurely when Felicidad died giving birth to their firstborn, a daughter by the name of Juana (named after her maternal grandmother) who died shortly after birth.

Amador wrote and dedicated a poem to Felicidad which contains the very well known verse "Aquí yace un cuerpo que pasó por la vida. ¿Su alma?, su alma está en la mía."

A search on Google resulted in very little information regarding Amador. I'd appreciate a copy of the poem and a bio on Amador if anyone has access to either.

June 5, 2010 Update: Thanks to Luis Valladares Montalvo, a great grandson of Bruno Beauchamp Giorgi, who did me the favor of tracking down Felicidad's grave and taking some photos of it. Sign on into your Facebook account and click here to see the images of Felicidad's grave and her death record. Luis was also able to confirm that the poem inscribed on the grave marker does consist of the following two lines:

"Aquí yace un cuerpo que pasó por la vida.
¿Su alma?, su alma está en la mía."

No one has yet to locate a full version of this poem.

One document, that's all it can take to move a person's file from the TBD database into the main database. In reviewing the Anasco microfilms, Kathy came across the birth record for Pedro Beauchamp Cruz son of Armando Beauchamp. Kathy had been contacted by Mayrah Cuebas Pagan 3 years ago trying to identify the ancestry for her great grandfather Armando Beauchamp. Since then, we have located documents and census records for Armando's descendants but Pedro's birth record is the very first one to identify Armando's parents. That one record allowed us to move Armando Beauchamp Medina and 43 of his descendants into the main database.

They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews. Now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. 2010 -- Day 4! The days are already going by too fast for me....¡Feliz Ano Nuevo Familia!

2009 was a great year for familia crossing paths with this website which lead them to us. We have acquired new and confirmed old data, solved a few and discovered more missing links and added Familia members to our research efforts. Thank you to all! Kathy and I look forward to an even greater year of camaraderie and collaboration.

Now down to business...The review of microfilmed records at a local Family History Center, as well as the data made available through Ancestry.com, allows us to add ancestors to our Familia database, acquire new info and confirm non-documented information. The recent finding of documents has allowed us to correct entries for non-documented information for two records.

Francisco Chabrier Goiran was previously listed as the son of Juan Bruno Chabrier Ubinchy and Ramona Cecilia Brugman Laborde. Birth records for Francisco's children identify Isabel Goiran Ferret as their paternal grandmother. This confirms the information previously provided on the baptismal record for one of Francisco's daughter.

Maria Velez Roman and Maria Prudencia Bouchan Velez were previously listed as the wife and daughter of Lope Cosme Beauchamp Brugman due to the lack of sufficient documented information and because we only had one "Lope" on the system in 1998. Thanks to the birth and census records found for Maria's family, it turns out that Lope Cosme Beauchamp Brugman is not the head of this family. The head of this household is actually Jose Lope Bouchan (Beauchamp) Guzman whose ancestry we have not yet been able to identify. Thanks to Shannon Rice for bringing to my attention that Lope Cosme's record had not been updated.

These updates were made possible by the review of several microfilmed records and the data provided by Ancestry.com. We incur expenses in order to have access to these resources. Please consider helping us continue our research efforts by Sponsoring a Microfilm. Your sponsorship will help us to continue our research and to share our findings with our Familia and friends.

Kathy & I wish you all a happy & healthy 2010!

Just this week during my annual year-end search for new publications on or related to "El Grito de Lares," I came across a childrens book on the topic.

El Diario de Pablo Rivera: Un Joven en El Grito de Lares is a colorful and engaging publication recounting the brief diary entries of 16 year old Pablo Rivera regarding his involvement in the revolution.

Pablo is the son of Pablo Rivera Garcia who was then Mayor of Camuy, Puerto Rico and was charged with beloging to the rebellion's secret society of Lanzador del Norte.

This book is part of series on Puerto Rican history written for youths published by La Fundacion Voz del Centro. For more information visit Voz del Centro's website. Please note that the diary entries do not mention the participation of the Brugmans or Beauchamps in the rebellion.

Genealogy is very hard, but when the old spirits want to be found, you will find them.

Dolores Antolin passed on the above quote in response to my findings this past week. I came across a vital record that identified the elusive Pedro Beauchamp's maternal surname as BENITES. 11 researchers and 5 years later, Pedro is not the Pedro we were hoping he was but we now know who is. The search takes on a new path as we try to identify his parents.

I also came across a document that identified Sylvia Teresa de Jesus' great great grandfather as Zoilo Ramon Beauchamp CUBA. This one turned out to be just as we suspected. This family line no longer has a missing link and has been transferred to the main database.

I was also in touch with a first cousin who is a descendant of the Brugman Puig family line. Her son came across the blog entry on Tia Elsie who was his mother's aunt. She is interested in touching base with anyone of the Brugman family. Let me know if you would like to get in touch with her.

Last but least, I had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with Vinnie Sanabria and his wife Yanira during a recent visit to DC. What a great couple!

Wishing all a great week!

If you can help us identify Zoilo's ancestors or are a descendant of this family, e-mail us.

In Search of the Elusive Pedro Beauchamp

There are eight, yes eight, researchers trying to uncover who are the parents of the Pedro Beauchamp who has descendants in Hawaii.

It is believed that Pedro's children were born at Utuado, Puerto Rico which makes it obvious that we need to review the vital records for Utuado, Puerto Rico but just in case, until we get to that point, check out the page for this family at the Familia Web site. If you can help us solve this mystery or are another descendant of this family, e-mail us.

Two of the researchers, RosMary Sanchez & Dolores Antolin Muniz, are descendants of one of Pedro's daughters, Dolores Bucan Beauchamp Guzman.

Dolores (photo to the left) is also researching the following surnames: Roman, Cortez Medina, Matos, Beauchamp y Valez, Valez Roman, Roman Gonzalez, Valez Lopez, Aquino Custodio and Cortez Medina. These are some of the surnames that she has identified to belong to Pedro Beauchamp's descendants. Please e-mail Dolores if you have any information on these surnames.

Ivette & Tia Carlotta

Ivette Pol who married into the Beauchamp genealogy and her Tia Carlota who is a descendant of Pablo Antonio Beauchamp Sterling recently opened the doors to their homes and genealogy treasures to me. Kathy & I have been swapping information with Ivette over the past few weeks and it turned out that we were practically neighbors! Small world.

Ivette is conducting her research on the Pol and Beauchamp family lines via Ancestry.com. Get in touch with her, polbonita@aol.com, if you think you can be of any help to her with either lines. Kathy & I will automatically be Ccd on the message so that we can stay in the loop. The Pol family line will be integrated into the Familia Web site later in the year.

It seems that every time I checked my e-mails I find we've been contacted by another Beauchamp descendant. So I took a tally of the number of people in the database that have the Beauchamp surname as a paternal or maternal surname. In the main database there are 929 individuals and in the TBD database another 235! I kid you not!

_____________________________________________________________________________

July 3, 2009

The past few weeks have been an information being swapped between cousins marathon. Vinnie Sanabria put Kathy & I in contact with several cousins who are researching different lines of the Beauchamp genealogy. We've also heard from a Chabrier, two Brugman and yet another Beauchamp descendant.

Victor Sanchez III and his dad, Victor Sanchez II, contacted us wanting to identify the Nicolas Beauchamp from which they are descendants. We have our theories but we need to do some further review of microfilms before we can be certain. However, it turned out that they are also Brugman descendants!

Victor & his dad brought in our cousin Yvette Carlo into the e-conversation which has resulted in revising the web pages for the family of Juan Andres Brugman Cardona for which you will see that his surname has been revised. I have noted the surname combinations on his page since there are sources available for each. Regardless, he is a descendant of Matias Brugman Duliebre.

Ivette Pol also contacted us with corrections and new information for her ancestors Arturo Pol Velez & Isabel Beauchamp Quinones as well as for other members of that family line.

Narciso Chabrier has also submitted corrections & new information for his ancestors Narciso Chabrier Brugman & Providencia Andujar Santiago as well as for other members of that family line. In addition, he was able to identify one of the persons in an unidentified photo. WOOHOO! Thank you Siso!!

Much thanks to all for the warm collaboration. A heartfelt thanks to Kathy who helps me keep my sanity by managing the majority of e-mails.

Updates on the new Brugman, Chabrier & Beauchamp contacts will be posted later on this month. Wishing all a great holiday weekend...Julia

¡Hola Familia!

I'm working on updating a database which Kathy started for the slaves of our ancestors. The baptismal record for Clara Asuncion Brugman lists her mother, Maria Clara Cardona, as property of Matias Brugman. Maria Clara Cardona and her descendants had been previously listed as a family line for Matias. That family line has been removed from this Web site and will be uploaded and included with the other slave files at a later date.

It is with a heavy heart that I write that my cousin, Gilbert Caquias Lopez, passed away on Sunday morning, May 31st, 2009. I will always remember Gilbert as a fun-loving guy with a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious smile and a big heart.

The foundation of the research which resulted in this Web site is due in part to Gilbert. He lovingly shared his paper files and photos with me 15 years ago catapulting my efforts. We spent many hours on the phone & weekends at his basement into the wee hours feeding one another's obsession of the need to figure something out RIGHT NOW.

Gilbert's body will be put to rest on Friday but his soul has been singing and dancing all week long with the familia who have gone before us. (And trying to figure out how to get to us the genealogy info that he is now privy to.)

Photo provided by Merari Feliciano. Welcome to the Felicano Family!

Tonight I am writing to inform you that we are now united with the Feliciano Family as a result the information posted on the FAMILIA Website. John Feliciano is a ggggggrandson of Mathias Brugman and a ggggrandson of Francisco Chabrier. Count those Gs! Amazing! And his sons add yet another generation!

Merari, John's wife, e-mailed me the following on December 13th, "We were very excited to find all this information...Thank you for posting all this information. It is a great resource to pass on to our boys."

Thank you Merari, once again, for writing and adding to our genealogy. And thank you to all of the Familia who have participated in this project. We could never have come this far without all of you! Merari you are now also a part of this great team!

¡Hola Familia!

Along the way of any genealogical research, you come across the relatives of someone who married into your family. I have info on several such family lines. I have started to add these extended familias to the website. They are identified by a yellow asterick to the left of the name and are linked to the person who married into the Brugman genealogy. This update welcomes the Caban familiy to our website.

Jim Sallas Caravalho has provided me with some information and photos for the descendants of Pedro Beauchamp and Maria Eduvigis Guzman who are listed under the Missing Links section. We have not yet located documentation that identifies the maternal surname of Pedro Beauchamp which will allow us to merge this family line into the main database.

More to come! Wishing all a great weekend,

Julia

Happy Autumn!

Summer went by way too fast for me and Hallmark already has Christmas Ornaments displayed for sale...Ay yi yi!

My computer moved on to technology heaven over the Summer after many years of being pushed beyond its limits and faithful service. I am in the process of installing my software into the new system which arrived this week. I hope to add new material to the website in two weeks time. I've got a couple of projects partially done so I'm not sure what I'll be adding first.

Check back around the 15th. Until then, I wish a healthy Fall season to all!

Julia

Photo provided by Susanne Gennaro. Petrona Nolasco Brugman Laborde & Family

Females, left to right: Ana Maria Arroyo Brugman, Petrona Nolasco Brugman Laborde and Maria Antonia Arroyo Brugman. One of the children is Moses Arroyo Gelpis, the son of Martin Arroyo Brugman, but it is not known which child is Moses nor who the other child is.

Just yesterday, Susanne Gennaro, a descendant of Petra Nolasco Brugman Laborde, e-mailed me after finding her family's genealogy on the FAMILIA Website. On August 8th, she kindly shared with us this photo of Petra and her children.

What a GREAT addition to our research! Thank you Susanne for sharing this photo and updating your genealogy.

¡Hola Familia!

I hope that this update finds everyone well. I'm working on adding more photos to the individual records and I came across some unidentified photos for which I have created the section, Can you solve these puzzles?. Please check out the pages in this section. It might turn out that you know something about one of the photos. Also, please feel to send me your unidentified photo with whatever information you may have for it. I will create and add a page to this site for it. Please only send photos that you believe to be related or connected the genealogy on this website.

The photos on this website have been acquired from many people and sources. I am slowly identifying each photo with a note indicating how I came about that image. Position your mouse over an image on this website and you will see the name of the person who provided that image or its source. I'm still working on this so not all of the photos have this notation.

Last but not least, I'm willing to create a links page which would list the websites, blogs, Facebook, etc. of folks related to the genealogy of this website. So if you're interested, send me your link and let me know how your link relates to the genealogy on this website.

Wishing all a great week,
Julia

¡Saludos Familia!

Kathy and I just recently referred to Martin Gaudier's books on Puerto Rican genealogy, again. The wealth of information in the genealogies and biographies provided in these books are invaluable. The indexes in these books list the genealogies in alphabetical order and by city. I thought that it might be helpful to have the index pages handy so I have made them available as downloadable PDF files on the RECOMMENDED READING page.

Wishing all a great week,
Julia

Happy June!

Vinnie Sanabria Terreforte has discovered the first name for one of the "Unknown First Names" in our database! Via his research on Ancestry.com of the 1910 United States Federal Census for information on the TERREFORTE family line, Vinnie found that Maria Alejandrina Alers Beauchamp was married to VICENTE Rivera.

Thank you Vinnie for filling in one of our blanks.

Wishing all a great week,
Julia

c. 2008-photo provided by Armando De Los Santos In Memory of Dr. Luis Arturo Torres Padilla

Artie achieved whatever he set his mind to do, he was free-spirited and a party all on his own.

My first exposure to El Grito de Lares and Mathias Brugman was through my cousin Artie. Artie gave me a copy of a research paper written by Paul Borkowski in 1981, The Role of Mathias Brugman in the Puerto Rican Separatist Movement and Lares Rebellion of 1868. This was the beginning of my research of the Brugman family.

Artie passed away unexpectedly on May 5th, 2008 just a few days after his 57th birthday. We gathered together on May 10th for a memorial mass and later that evening we reminisced about Artie with great salsa music playing in the background. I am sure that even in the hereafter he danced up a storm.

Artie's ashes will be interred at Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia on July 3rd, 2008.

photo provided by Julia Sosa In Memory of Elsie Brugman Puig

Every family has a photo archivist. Ours was Tia Elsie.

When I was knee deep into my genealogy research Tia Elsie informed me that she had photographs of some the folks for whom I had located documents. She offered to show them to me and point out who was who. Tia actually had a goldmine of photos and, after a threat to behead me if anything happened to them, she willing allowed me to borrow a few. I returned that batch within a week, got to keep my head, and earned enough trust to be allowed to borrow complete photo albums through the years. Many of the Brugman Puig photos on the website now, and to be posted in the future, originated from one of tia Elsie's photo albums.

Tia Elsie passed away unexpectedly on May 1st, 2008, two days before what would have been my grandmother's birthday. She was my maternal grandmother's youngest sister and the last surviving Brugman Puig sibling.

Tia was a second mother to my mother, an aunt whose visits were full of laughter and kind words, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Our heartfelt lost, Heaven's gain.

c. 2008-photo acquired from the web Celia Altschuler, is a great great granddaughter of
Juan Bruno Chabrier, is a poet and artist with many other talents. A bio and an interview with Celia is posted at Revitsa Biografia.

Log on into your Facebook account and then click here to view images of a few of her paintings. You can also read Viaje a Japon and several poems written by Celia at Espanol Agonia and Poetas del Mundo.

The poem that follows was written by Celia, during 2005, in homage to Julia De Burgos who married into the Beauchamp genealogy around 1934.

Julia

Welcome to the redesigned web site of FAMILIA. FINALLY!

March 10, 2008

Throughout this web site, you may ignore the security message from Internet Explorer, if you see it, informing you that it has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. The active content on this website is a rotating series of images and other content features. Click on the information bar and allow the blocked content and you will see the images. No harm will be caused to your computer by these features not can your computer be acessed by them.

As some of you know, I've been slooowly working offline to update this web site and then in January I got the brainstorm to redesign it altogether. Those folks familiar with the original Web site will find all of the original content, I think, I hope.

You will find on this web site family trees for 4 generations and 1,123 individuals of the 9 generations and 3,846 individuals that make up our genealogy database. The partial listing on this web site is due to identity theft & privacy issues. Contact us if you need to track a family line further than what is listed. You'll need to provide an unposted connection that will convince us that you are related to that family line.

The surnames have been updated to read "Paternal Surname Maternal Surname". Yes, I heard your pleas to correct this. I simply did not know 14 years ago how to rig up the files in the genealogy program so that the combined surnames would list correctly.

Several folks reported that they would prefer one listing of all surnames and one listing of the individual names available on the web site. The listings were previously broken down into the descendants of one of the three families which resulted in visitors having to follow links back and forth since the family lines intermingle so often. Done! This actually made my update easier.

New to the website are pages for Tito Lara, slideshows and 2 blogs. More will be added over the next few weeks so sign up to be notified about updates via e-mail.

I will use this space to keep you posted on additions to the site. The scroll box will allow me to add messages without having to delete the old ones that may used for reference purposes.

Last but not least, this web site would never have been possible without the input of so many people. This is our web site. So keep the photos, articles, music & updates coming.

Julia
